I am a senior partner and co-owner of Helix Law, the largest specialist litigation law firm in the South East of England.
I specialise in complex commercial (shareholder, business/boardroom, ownership and business/company related disputes) and complex property-related disputes, often where there is a degree of urgency or seriousness that requires immediate resolution.
Called to the Bar as a Barrister in 2007, I later cross-qualified and have specialised in dealing with complex litigation as a solicitor for approaching 20 years. I was previously a Partner in another law firm in the South East and at the time one of the youngest partners in the country. For much of the last 20 years however, my focus has been to lead the development of Helix from a start-up of c.£40k pa in 2011, to a firm with a specialist team and turnover now running into millions. With others, I lead the often unseen development of automations, coding and technology within Helix to ensure we are a lean, modern firm closer to a tech company than a traditional law firm.
I advise in disputes ranging from hundreds of thousands to multiple parties with tens of millions in dispute. My work is not mainly local, and matters mostly have a London or national element, with clients often referred to me and our team by other professionals. I quietly go about my business and treat every dispute as though it were my own. Clients tell me I am quick to assess and assimilate facts and to advise on prospects of success, strengths, weaknesses, risks and opportunities. I relish the challenge of our work and enjoy chess, applying myself to finding, creating where possible, and deploying leverage to help achieve my client’s aims. I take the same joy and professional pride in winning smaller cases as larger disputes, where I might be managing a team including king’s counsel, junior barristers, partner-level solicitors, trainees and various experts.
I am quick to find and get to the point, and advise clients in technical disputes in a down-to-earth, approachable, and jargon-free way.
I have been recognised nationally for my work and increasingly lead our team in winning business from, and then litigating against, city-level firms in significant disputes.
I previously owned and exited two SME’s. I keenly understand the opportunities, pressures and challenges entrepreneurs face, and the commercial world.
