Security of Tenure
27 February 2025
Security of tenure refers to the legal protections that ensure tenants of commercial properties may occupy their rented property for a lease period or even afterwards without fear of arbitrary eviction.
This statutory tenant right is derived from Part II of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 and sets clear rules about how and when a landlord can legally terminate a tenancy.
The right protects businesses from the cost and hassle of moving, which is especially important for businesses located in a good area or have spent considerable funds customising the property.
