Property

Anything owned by a person or entity, the latter indicating it is owned by multiple people. Property can be divided into two categories, real property and personal property. Real property refers to interest in land, real estate, and growing plants or any necessary improvements upon them. Personal property, sometimes known as personality, refers to everything else.
A third term, common property, refers to items that are under the ownership of more than one person. Separate property may be used to describe property owned only by one spouse, or a married woman’s sole ownership. Public property refers to anything owned by a government body.
Property can be more specifically defined as anything that can be owned or possesses monetary value. It also refers to an individual or entity’s beneficial right to possession. This is an important distinction as it highlights what cannot be considered property. For instance, the sea, the air, and the like cannot be appropriated in any capacity, as no individual nor entity can claim ownership rights.
