Home > FAQ > General FAQ's > A Claim Has Been Issued Against Me, but I Think It’s Someone Else’s Fault – What Are My Options?

If another party is partly or wholly responsible, you may be able to bring them into the proceedings as a third party or seek a contribution or indemnity from them. This is known as a Part 20 claim. You’ll need the court’s permission (or you can file it with your defence if you’re early enough) and evidence to support your case. This process can be complex and puts you at risk in terms of adverse legal costs, so obtaining legal advice from experienced litigation specialist solicitors is essential, as blaming the wrong party without grounds can backfire significantly, commercially speaking.
