Accused

An accusation is a formal, criminal charge that asserts that a person has been involved in committing a crime, but their guilt has not yet been proven. In the time before a guilty or not guilty verdict, the person can be labelled “the accused”. An accused person can solicit legal advice and representation throughout their case. Before an individual can be declared guilty, the charge must be proven beyond all reasonable doubt. In court, a jury deliberates over evidence presented by the accused and the claimant as to whether they believe beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the crime.
